Three Witches, a 4-year-old filly sired by Into Mischief, made waves at the Keeneland November sale when she fetched a staggering $1.7 million, making her the 12th seven-figure filly of the sale. Despite coming off a third-place finish in the GI Breeders’ Cup F/M Sprint just a week prior, Three Witches still managed to captivate buyers with her potential. Keeneland Australian representative Barry Bowditch expressed his excitement about the filly’s future in the U.S., stating, “For a mare that raced five days ago, in one of the strongest Breeders’ Cup races of the week, she looked so well and handled the trip back so well. You just feel that the best of her racing is yet to come.”

Mike Ryan, acting as a bloodstock agent for e Five Racing, initially purchased Three Witches for $350,000 at the 2020 Keeneland September sale. After witnessing her impressive performance in the GIII Princess Rooney S. in October, the decision to send her through the ring at Keeneland was made. Bob Edwards of e Five Racing reflected on the difficult choice to sell, saying, “It’s always a hard decision [to sell] when you have something special that’s won a Grade III and you drop her in the Breeders’ Cup and at 30-1 she hits the board. We believed in her and Saffie did a phenomenal job suiting her up and getting that Princess Rooney win for us and going to the Breeders’ Cup.”

The sale of Three Witches exceeded expectations, with Edwards expressing his satisfaction with the outcome. He stated, “We were super happy with the job they did and the outcome was phenomenal. I wasn’t expecting $1.7 million, but I was very happy to get it.” Moving forward, discussions regarding the choice of trainer for Three Witches’ 2024 campaign are still ongoing, indicating that her journey in the racing world is far from over. The high price tag attached to Three Witches signifies the confidence and potential she holds, leaving many eager to witness her continued success on the racetrack.
