Jockey Abel Cedillo has made the decision to venture outside of California this winter and head to Turfway Park for their upcoming meeting starting on November 29th. Despite his success at various tracks in California, Cedillo expressed his desire to try something new and take advantage of this opportunity. “I just want to go because I’ve never gone out of California,” Cedillo tells us. “I’m still young so I don’t want to wait until I’m too old to make the move. I’ll take my chance right now.” This move marks a significant change for Cedillo, who has experienced setbacks in his career, including a serious injury earlier this summer.

During the summer meet at Del Mar, Cedillo suffered a broken bone in his neck, forcing him to sit out for the rest of the races. After opting out of surgery, he dedicated himself to intense rehabilitation, which ultimately paid off. “It took six weeks,” Cedillo shares. “I was working out in the gym by myself and doing my routine. Sometimes in the morning I get up and I’m a little sore. But soon as I start working I feel better. I feel a hundred percent now.” His determination and resilience have clearly paid off, allowing him to recover fully and continue pursuing his passion for racing.

Despite his upcoming move to Turfway Park, Cedillo intends to return to Del Mar next summer, proving that this venture is merely a temporary change of scenery. His drive and commitment to his career are evident, and it will be exciting to see how his experience at Turfway Park will shape his future in the racing world. We’ll be eagerly following Cedillo’s journey and anticipating his return to the California tracks he has dominated in the past.
