The Jockey Club opened applications Monday for its paid internship program and five academic scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year, according to an organizational release.
The eight-week internship program will accommodate up to three interns during either summer or fall sessions, based on participant preference. Interns will receive exposure to all companies and departments within the organization, with opportunities to focus on areas of particular interest.
Internships will be hosted at The Jockey Club’s Lexington, KY office. Applications will be accepted through January 5, 2026, with selected candidates notified in February 2026.
The scholarship program includes five distinct funding opportunities for students pursuing equine industry careers:
- The Jockey Club Scholarship ($15,000): For undergraduate or graduate students pursuing majors leading to equine industry employment
- The Jockey Club Advancement of Women in Racing Scholarship ($20,000): Specifically for female undergraduate students pursuing equine industry careers
- The Jockey Club Vision Scholarship ($20,000): Designated for students from minority racial or ethnic groups pursuing equine industry careers
- The Jockey Club Nancy C. Kelly Benevolence Scholarship ($15,000): A need-based award for Thoroughbred racing farm or backstretch workers and their families who have experienced financial hardship
- The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarship ($6,000): For students enrolled in the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program
While most scholarships are open to students interested in any equine breed or discipline, preference will be given to candidates expressing interest in Thoroughbred industry employment. The Nancy C. Kelly scholarship applicants are not required to pursue careers in equine or Thoroughbred industries.
Scholarship recipients will be announced in spring 2026 before the initial fund distribution for the fall 2026 semester.
