Claiborne Farm veteran Bernie Sams has announced the launch of BF Sams Bloodstock Advisory, a new consulting venture that will leverage his decades of industry experience.
The newly established company will offer services including broodmare band management, mating recommendations, stallion season and share acquisitions, equine insurance guidance, and additional bloodstock consulting.
“I’m very excited to begin this new venture,” said Sams. “Claiborne was very good to me over the past 20-plus years and I look forward to the next chapter. I’m also happy to see my son, little Bernie, showing a passion for the Thoroughbred industry, so I’m hoping in the next few years he’ll join me in this new endeavor.”
The Louisville, Kentucky native began working with Thoroughbreds while attending the University of Kentucky. His early career included positions at Wimbledon Farm, Haras de Roiville in France, Manchester Farm Lexington, and Overbrook Farm.
Sams also managed stallions at Gainesway before beginning his significant tenure at Claiborne Farm in 2003.
During his 20-year career at Claiborne, Sams served as Bloodstock and Stallion Manager where he assisted in stallion acquisitions and syndications, managed the farm’s stallion roster, directed advertising initiatives, and provided client consultation on broodmare purchases and matings.
His management portfolio at Claiborne included several industry-leading sires — Pulpit, Arch, Flatter, Blame and War Front, the latter recognized as one of the most accomplished sires in recent Thoroughbred history.
