Bolt d’Oro Filly Our Lady Wins Malvern Rose

Our Lady Remains Undefeated After Malvern Rose Stakes Victory

Our Lady (Bolt d’Oro) secured her third consecutive victory Monday in the Malvern Rose Stakes at Presque Isle Downs, rallying from last to first in the final furlong to defeat her Pennsylvania-bred rivals.

The 3-10 favorite made her connections nervous with a late charge, but ultimately prevailed by a half-length margin that belied the relative ease of her victory.

Ridden by Patrick Husbands for trainer Steven Chircop, the 3-year-old filly settled at the back of the pack behind slow fractions before finding daylight about five paths off the rail at the furlong marker. She displayed an impressive turn of foot in the final 100 yards to secure her first black-type win.

“She lengthened her stride nicely,” noted track observers as the filly maintained her perfect record.

Our Lady began her career with a dominant 6 1/4-length maiden victory over Woodbine’s Tapeta surface on May 4, followed by a four-length win against older rivals in a May 24 optional claimer as the 1-4 favorite.

The Canadian-based filly, owned by JDLP Holdings Inc., was purchased for $75,000 as a Fasig-Tipton February yearling before commanding $160,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic breeze-up sale.

She becomes the 17th black-type winner for her sire Bolt d’Oro. The Malvern Rose Stakes — previously contested at a two-turn mile — was notably won by Shamrock Rose (First Dude) in 2018, who went on to capture the GI Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint that same year.

Our Lady hails from a distinguished family. Her third dam Summer Raven won the GIII Tempted Stakes and produced multiple graded stakes performers including MGSW/MGISP Lewis Bay (Bernardini) and Grade III winners Misconnect and Winslow Homer (both by Unbridled’s Song). Summer Raven is also the second dam of GSW Lost Raven (Uncle Mo).

The winner’s dam, Summer’s Ready, has also produced 2-year-old filly Jr Miss Buttercup (American Pharoah) and a colt foal by Volatile.

Queen’s Wreath (Jimmy Creed) finished second at 10.60-1, earning her first black-type placement, while Icona Mama (Maximus Mischief) completed the trifecta at 5.10-1.

The $75,000 Malvern Rose Stakes was contested at 6 1/2 furlongs on the all-weather track, with Our Lady completing the distance in 1:17.66.
