CDI Reports Rainy Oaks Wagering Up Despite Overall Handle Decline

Churchill Downs Incorporated reported Friday that all-sources wagering on the GI Kentucky Oaks reached $22.7 million, a 4% increase from last year, despite overall handle for the full card declining.

Total all-sources wagering for the complete Oaks Day program totaled $73.9 million, down 1.9% from last year’s record of $75.3 million.

TwinSpires, the official betting partner of the Kentucky Oaks, set a new record with $20.9 million in wagers on Churchill Downs races during the Oaks Day program. This figure surpassed last year’s record of $20.3 million and included all settled future wagers and affiliate wagering.

Attendance figures showed 100,910 fans passed through the turnstiles on what became a rainy Oaks Day. This marks the smallest attendance since 2022, when 100,118 spectators attended the event.

The current attendance remains well below the all-time Oaks Day record of 124,589, set in 2016.

The racing action took place under challenging weather conditions, with rain affecting the track throughout the day as the Oaks field navigated the historic Churchill Downs oval.

CDI’s report comes as the racing world turns its attention to Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, the second jewel of the weekend’s prestigious racing program at the Louisville track.
