Churchill Downs to Spend $300 Million on New Structure

Churchill Downs announced Wednesday plans to construct a new $280-$300 million structure called Victory Run on the first turn of its iconic racetrack. The four-story facility will replace approximately 6,400 uncovered, ground-level box seats and dining areas with premium accommodations for approximately 7,800 guests.

The ambitious project will feature private suites, indoor and outdoor dining options, and covered box seating positioned between the First Turn Club and the Skye Terrace.

“We are excited to unveil the Victory Run project for Churchill Downs Racetrack,” said CDI CEO Bill Carstanjen. “This project will create a greatly improved experience for our guests in an important section of our racetrack while delivering long-term growth and value for our shareholders.”

Construction is scheduled to begin following the 2026 edition of the GI Kentucky Derby. Track officials confirmed temporary seating will be installed in the area for the 2027 Derby, with construction expected to be complete before the 2028 running of the historic race.

The Victory Run development represents the latest in a series of significant capital improvements at the Louisville venue, which has undergone extensive modernization efforts in recent years to enhance the spectator experience.

The project continues Churchill Downs’ strategy of upgrading premium seating areas to maximize revenue potential during its signature racing events while improving overall guest amenities throughout the facility.
