Juddmonte‘s Disco Time Remains Undefeated With Dominant Dwyer Stakes Victory
Disco Time delivered a commanding performance in Saturday’s Dwyer Stakes at Aqueduct, cruising to a 9 3/4-length victory and maintaining his perfect record through five career starts.
The Brad Cox-trained colt, sent off as the 6-5 favorite, tracked TDN Rising Star Tip Top Thomas through the early stages before asserting his dominance around the far turn. Under jockey Florent Geroux, Disco Time completed the one-mile contest in 1:33.86 and earned a 107 Beyer Speed Figure.
“Very impressive,” said Brad Cox assistant Dustin Dugas. “Florent knows the horse very well and he timed everything really well. He didn’t let Tip Top Thomas get away. They were rolling. When he asked him to go, he went and there was nothing left to guess about.”
The 3-year-old son of Not This Time began his career at Churchill Downs last year with back-to-back victories before capturing the Grade III Lecomte Stakes at Fair Grounds in January by a neck.
After missing the Kentucky Derby and remainder of the Triple Crown season, Disco Time returned with a 5 1/2-length triumph in the St. Louis Derby at Fairmount Park on September 19.
“They were going quick, but the way he was sitting outside of him—Florent said he was comfortable the entire way,” Dugas added. “He was very confident in his horse and the horse looked very confident in himself. A very nice horse. He shipped into Belmont well on Thursday and trained over at Belmont on Friday in really good shape. He shipped here on his toes and didn’t really miss a beat.”
Crudo, a son of Justify trained by Todd Pletcher, finished second at odds of nearly 10-1. Pletcher also saddled third-place finisher Tip Top Thomas, who was five lengths behind the runner-up.
Disco Time is out of the multiple stakes-winning and graded-stakes placed mare Disco Chick, who earned $735,250 during her racing career. Juddmonte purchased Disco Chick for $180,000 at the 2018 Keeneland January sale. The dam has a weanling filly by Yaupon and was bred to Justify for next year.
With the $110,000 winner’s share, Disco Time increased his career earnings to $551,960 while extending his unbeaten streak to five races.
