Disco Time Remains Perfect Claims St. Louis Derby at Fairmount

Juddmonte‘s Disco Time Dominates St. Louis Derby in Perfect Return

Disco Time (Not This Time) maintained his undefeated record with a commanding wire-to-wire victory in the St. Louis Derby at Fairmount on Thursday.

The Brad Cox trainee, who hadn’t raced since capturing the GII Lecomte Stakes at Fair Grounds on January 18, controlled the pace throughout the $250,000 contest.

Sent off as the even-money favorite, Disco Time broke sharply and established immediate command, setting fractions of :23.87 for the opening quarter, :47.42 for the half-mile, and 1:11.51 for six furlongs. The Juddmonte homebred cruised to a 5 1/2-length victory over fast-closing ‘TDN Rising Star’ Hypnus (Into Mischief), with Excite (Speightstown) rallying for third.

“He’s a special talent,” said jockey Florent Geroux, who guided the colt to his fourth consecutive victory.

The win pushed Disco Time’s career earnings to $441,960 while maintaining his perfect 4-for-4 record. His previous victories included a maiden-breaking effort at Churchill Downs last November, followed by an optional claiming triumph at the same track on November 30.

Disco Time represents the most accomplished offspring to date for his dam Disco Chick (Jump Start), a multiple stakes winner and graded stakes-placed runner who earned $735,250 during her racing career. The mare has produced just two runners from three living offspring. After losing her 2023 Kantharos foal and remaining barren in 2024, Disco Chick delivered a filly by Yaupon this year and was subsequently bred to Justify for 2026.

Hypnus, owned by Wathnan Racing and trained by Kenny McPeek, earned $50,000 for his runner-up finish. Excite, a Claiborne Farm and Adele B. Dilschneider homebred trained by Bill Mott, collected $25,000 for third in what marked his first black-type placing.

The St. Louis Derby field also included Mickswagger, Spellmaker, Extradition, Smoken Boy, and Dune a Vetta. Admiral Dennis, Brotha Keny, and Chunk of Gold were scratched from the event.

The final time for the 1 1/16-mile contest was 1:43.87 over a fast track.
