Can you believe it? Up until last Friday, not a single 3-year-old filly from Chad Brown’s barn had snagged a graded stakes win on the grass. Sounds almost made up, right? But then, Dynamic Pricing, a spirited contender from Klaravich Stables, changed the game. She clinched a win in the GII Edgewood S. at Churchill Downs, and boy, was it soggy.
The odds were nearly 9-1. For a Brown runner, that’s pretty generous. Dynamic Pricing, a €170,000 gem from the Tattersalls October yearling sale, had a decent start. She broke from gate nine in a field that had dwindled to 11, finding her rhythm three deep into the first turn. She had a bit of cover behind Way to Be Marie, while Maxisuperfly set a pace that was, let’s say, more than decent.
Mid-race, Dynamic Pricing was still in the game, tailing Way to Be Marie. She was traveling strong, albeit three wide on the turn. Then, with a strategic move, she angled off Way to Be Marie’s heels in the upper stretch. Way to Be Marie seemed to have the win in the bag, but Irad Ortiz, Jr., Dynamic Pricing’s jockey, had other plans. In a thrilling finish, she claimed victory, leaving Dancing N Dixie to settle for third with a late surge down the center.
Let’s rewind a bit. Dynamic Pricing first made waves last November at Aqueduct, edging out Way to Be Marie. Her sophomore debut was nothing short of bold, finishing a close third in the GIII Sweetest Chant S. at Gulfstream. Despite a challenging position in the Florida Oaks last March, she showed grit, finishing seventh.
Now, for a bit of pedigree chat. Dynamic Pricing is a shining star for her sire, Night of Thunder (Ire), marking his 44th worldwide stakes win. Her dam, Shemda, was snagged by Epona Bloodstock back in 2019, and it seems like that investment is paying off. Dynamic Pricing isn’t just a one-hit wonder; she’s part of a lineage of champions.
And there you have it. Dynamic Pricing, against the odds, took the Edgewood Stakes, proving once again that in horse racing, anything can happen. With Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the saddle and Chad Brown overseeing the strategy, Klaravich Stables has another star in their lineup. What a race, what a day at Churchill Downs!
