Fair Grounds will reschedule Saturday’s canceled racing program to Tuesday, Mar. 18, following a power outage that forced the suspension of all racing activities.
The rescheduled card will maintain its original race lineup with first post set for 12:45 p.m. CT, according to a Sunday announcement from Churchill Downs Inc.
This adjustment creates a rare six-day racing week at the New Orleans track, which will continue through Louisiana Derby Day on Saturday before concluding its meet on Sunday, Mar. 23.
The power outage represents an unexpected disruption during the final stretch of Fair Grounds’ racing season, which features several key prep races for three-year-olds on the Kentucky Derby trail.
Track officials confirmed all entries and post positions will remain unchanged for the rescheduled card, providing horsemen with the opportunity to maintain their racing plans with minimal disruption.
The Louisiana Derby program remains the highlight of the closing weekend, featuring the track’s signature $1 million Grade 2 stakes event that awards qualifying points toward the Kentucky Derby.
