So, here’s the scoop. Ghostzapper’s weanling colt, hip 29, stole the show at the Fasig-Tipton December Mixed Sale. This little guy was the top draw, selling for a cool $82,000. The lucky buyer? Machmer Hall.

This bay colt has some impressive lineage. Born and bred in Maryland by Owen Kiernan, he’s the first foal out of Dance All Day (Exaggerator). Now, Dance All Day may not have been a racer, but she’s got some winning blood in her. She’s a half-sister to the 2021 Queen’s Plate winner Safe Conduct (Bodemeister) and stakes winner Dancing Duchess (Munnings).

Here’s a twist, though. Dance All Day RNA’d for $21,000 with this foal in utero at the 2023 Keeneland January sale. The weanling’s third dam, Sararegal (Regal Classic), is the dam of Canadian champion Fatal Bullet. Talk about a family tree!

The auction was a busy affair. A total of 148 horses were sold, raking in $1,518,100. The average price was $10,257, with a median of $5,000. Not all horses found new homes, though. With 39 horses not sold, the buy-back rate stood at 20.9%.

Let’s take a quick look back. A year ago, 172 horses were sold, grossing $3,233,600. The average price was a bit higher at $18,800, and the median was $10,000. The buy-back rate was slightly higher too, at 24.6%.

And that’s the story. Ghostzapper’s weanling colt, hip 29, was the star of the show at the Fasig-Tipton December Mixed Sale.
