Saratoga standout Deep Learning tops impressive list of recent debut winners, showcasing exceptional Beyer figures across multiple tracks.
Deep Learning earned “TDN Rising Star” status with her commanding turf debut at Saratoga on August 8, posting an 84 Beyer Speed Figure — the highest among 2-year-old turf fillies this year. The Chad Brown trainee’s performance in the 1 1/16-mile turf maiden surpasses the debut figures of Brown’s previous five Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winners who also began their careers at Saratoga.
The Cairo Prince filly, owned by Klaravich Stables, appears poised for stakes company in her next start. In an unusual coincidence, her half-sister Sunset Beauty broke her maiden in a $30k claimer at Ellis Park just 28 minutes after Deep Learning’s victory.
Operation Sunrise delivered a dominant performance at Ellis Park on August 9, earning an 86 Beyer when winning a 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint by 7 3/4 lengths. The Godolphin homebred War Front colt, trained by Bill Mott, was 9-2 in the program but bet down to 8-5 by post time.
The 3-year-old second-time starter is a half-brother to two graded-stakes winning turf females with proven stamina around two turns.
Golden Tornado secured “TDN Rising Star” status with an impressive debut at Saratoga on August 9. The 2-year-old McKinzie colt earned an 86 Beyer while defeating 7-5 favorite Oscar’s Hope in the 6-furlong maiden.
Owned by Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Gainesway Stable, and Legendary Thoroughbreds, Golden Tornado is a half-brother to the undefeated 3-year-old Verifire (Authentic), who is 3-for-3 for Resolute Racing and trainer Brad Cox. Trainer Danny Gargan has now unveiled two impressive juvenile debut winners this summer, including Iron Orchard, one of the standout New York-bred 2-year-old fillies of the season.
Carmel Coast dominated her debut at Saratoga on August 10, earning an 86 Beyer while winning by 5 1/2 lengths. The 2-year-old Omaha Beach filly’s figure ranks second among Saratoga juvenile fillies this season, behind only the unbeaten Mythical’s 93 in the Tremont.
Trained by Whit Beckman for Legion Racing, MHM Stables, Ed Stefanski and William Conlin, Carmel Coast showed immediate speed and drew off impressively. Runner-up Lovely Christina, from the Todd Pletcher barn, finished 10 1/2 lengths ahead of the rest of the field, further validating the performance.
Worthy Charge earned the week’s top Beyer figure with a 90 in his mile maiden victory at Saratoga on August 10. The Chad Brown-trained 3-year-old Liam’s Map colt, owned by St. Elias Stable, had previously finished second in his July 4 debut with an 84 Beyer despite an awkward start.
The Kentucky-bred colt drew away impressively from Godolphin’s Chillax. Worthy Charge’s dam, Queen Bee to You, concluded her career with three consecutive stakes wins earning 86 Beyers, including victories in the Grade III Bayakoa and La Canada Stakes.
