First-Crop Son of Beau Liam Ties Track Record at OBS June Preview

OBS June Sale Breeze Show Concludes with Beau Liam Colt Posting Rare :20 1/5 Quarter-Mile

A colt from the first crop of Airdrie Stud-based former TDN Rising Star Beau Liam (Liam’s Map) delivered a standout performance during Saturday’s final breeze show ahead of next week’s OBS June 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale. The March 20 foal clocked a quarter-mile in :20 1/5, becoming the first horse to achieve that time since two juveniles matched it at last year’s OBS April Sale.

One of those previous speedsters was Cash Call (McKinzie), who recently captured the GIII Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita.

Hip 829, bred in Kentucky by La Ciega LLC, initially sold for $12,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton October Sale before changing hands for just $3,000 during the Fasig-Tipton December Digital Sale. The bay colt is consigned by Omar Ramirez Bloodstock, agent, whose consignment also produced a Cloud Computing filly that breezed a co-fastest quarter-mile in :20 4/5 during Wednesday’s session.

“I told Jimbo Gladwell [of Top Line Sales] this morning ‘I’ve got a good one coming out,'” Ramirez laughed. “I was expecting 20 and 3, 20 and 4 and if I was really lucky, 20 and 2. But 20 and 1, that’s amazing. He’s just a great colt. I knew the work was going to be good. I knew he was going to be the bullet, whatever the bullet was today.”

Ramirez added, “One of my riders told me to send this horse a quarter because he keeps going, he’s not going to stop. He’s ready to run.”

The consignor brings 28 horses into next week’s sale and expressed confidence in his overall draft.

“This colt is just a special horse. He does everything naturally,” said Ramirez. “He just goes over there and does his thing. I’ve had a great under-tack show overall. All my babies responded well and have come back good and are looking good.”

Two juveniles shared Saturday’s one-furlong bullet, each breezing in :9 4/5.

Hip 754 is a May-foaled filly by promising young sire Yaupon (Uncle Mo) consigned by Keiber Rengifo’s Golden Rock Thoroughbreds, agent. The bay filly is a daughter of stakes-placed Shine Softly (Aldebaran) and a half-sister to Busanda Stakes winner The Grass Is Blue (Broken Vow). Her second dam, Eclipse Award winner Soaring Softly (Kris S.), produced six winners, including GSW Manitoulin (Awesome Again).

Leinster’s hip 831 matched the one-furlong bullet time on Saturday. The stallion is off to a promising start with his first runners, including Royal Ascot-bound Lennilu. Steve Venosa’s S G V Thoroughbreds consigns the Florida-bred daughter of Sweetsweetsweet (Concord Point), a half-sister to 2-year-old stakes winner Concealedwithakiss (Political Force).

The OBS June Sale takes place Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17-18, in Central Florida. Complete catalogue and under-tack results are available at www.obssales.com.
