
Santa Anita hosted several key Breeders’ Cup contenders Saturday morning as championship hopefuls turned in important works two weeks before racing’s championship event.
Full Serrano (Arg) (Full Mast) continued preparation for his expected title defense in the GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, working five furlongs in :59.40 (2/48) in his second drill since finishing second in the GI Goodwood S. on Sept. 27.
“He’s right where we want him two weeks out,” trainer John Sadler said. “We were just looking to keep him crisp. He’s already ready. Just trying to keep him nice and sharp.”
Pennsylvania Derby winner Baeza (McKinzie) worked six furlongs in 1:14.20 (5/6) with jockey Hector Berrios aboard as he prepares for the GI Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Unbeaten 2-year-old TDN Rising Star Brant (Gun Runner), winner of the GI Del Mar Futurity, recorded a six-furlong move in 1:11.80 (2/6) for trainer Bob Baffert. The juvenile is targeting the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
Baffert also sent out several other Breeders’ Cup contenders for morning works.
Litmus Test (Nyquist) worked six furlongs in 1:12.40 ahead of the Juvenile, while Imagination (Into Mischief) covered the same distance in 1:11.60 as he points toward the Sprint.
GI Clement L. Hirsch S. winner Seismic Beauty (Uncle Mo) turned in a five-furlong drill in :59.60 as she prepares for the Distaff. Stablemate Splendora (Audible) worked the same distance in :58.20 for the Filly & Mare Sprint.
Trainer Richard Baltas worked Ag Bullet (Twirling Candy) five furlongs on the synthetic training track in :59.60. The speedster is targeting the Turf Sprint.
TDN Rising Star Tamara (Bolt d’Oro) worked five furlongs in 1:01 (19/48) for trainer Richard Mandella as she prepares for the Filly & Mare Sprint.
Stablemate Kopion (Omaha Beach) worked six furlongs in 1:12 (3/6). Mandella indicated the talented sprinter is being considered for either the seven-furlong Filly & Mare Sprint or the six-furlong Sprint against males.
