Good Magic Colt Talkin Runs Late to Win Debut at Saratoga

Reeves Thoroughbred Racing colt Talkin rallied late to capture his debut victory Saturday at Saratoga Race Course, winning a $100,000 maiden special weight by a neck.

The 2-year-old son of Good Magic overcame 9-1 odds to run down pacesetter Stradale in the final strides of the seven-furlong contest, completing the distance in 1:23.63.

Trained by Danny Gargan and ridden by Kendrick Carmouche, Talkin settled off the early pace as Stradale set fractions of :22.37 for the quarter-mile and :44.62 for the half. The bay colt launched his bid entering the stretch and prevailed despite switching back to his wrong lead in the final yards.

Talkin entered Saturday’s race with impressive morning credentials, posting a bullet four-furlong workout in :47 flat on August 23.

The $600,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase is a half-brother to Grade 3-placed Royal Obsession, who produced Grade 3 Indiana Oaks winner Clicquot and stakes-placed Silver Ticket. His dam Rote is also the mother of multiple stakes-placed Jumby Bay.

Rote has a yearling colt by Maclean’s Music and a 2025 full-brother to Talkin. She was bred back to Complexity for 2026.

The victory earned $55,000 for the ownership partnership of Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Pine Racing Stables, Legendary Thoroughbreds and Belmar Racing and Breeding, LLC.
