Good Magic’s Voldemort Captured on Camera Graduating at Santa Anita

SF Racing and partners’ Voldemort captured his maiden victory Thursday at Santa Anita, winning a $65,500 maiden special weight by 1 1/4 lengths under front-running tactics.

The 3-year-old son of Good Magic, who sold for $700,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September yearling sale, controlled the pace throughout the 1 1/16-mile contest, completing the distance in 1:43.94 over a fast track.

Sent off as the 8-5 favorite, Voldemort set fractions that included a half-mile in :45.78 before maintaining his advantage through the stretch. Westwood, a son of Authentic, finished second, more than 10 lengths clear of the third-place finisher.

The Bob Baffert trainee had finished second in his debut on February 22 behind ‘TDN Rising Star’ Tiz Secure.

Voldemort is the first winner for his dam Beauty Buzz, a daughter of Bernardini. The mare has since produced a juvenile colt by Core Beliefs and is currently in foal to Pappacap for 2025.

Beauty Buzz comes from an impressive family line — she’s a half-sister to the dam of Venezuela’s 2024 champion juvenile filly and was produced by a full-sister to influential sire Pioneerof the Nile, best known as the sire of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah.

The colt races for the partnership of SF Racing LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables LLC, Stonestreet Stables LLC, Dianne Bashor, Determined Stables, Robert E. Masterson, Tom J. Ryan, Waves Edge Capital LLC, and Catherine Donovan.

Voldemort was bred in Kentucky by Gary Broad – Walmac Farm, LLC. His career record now stands at 2-1-1-0 with earnings of $51,000.
