Gun Runner Full-Brother to Early Voting Sells for $2.2 Million at Keeneland Tuesday

Keeneland saw another seven-figure yearling on Tuesday as a full brother to GI Preakness Stakes winner Early Voting commanded $2.2 million during the second session of the September Yearling Sale.

Trainer Wesley Ward, bidding on behalf of a partnership, secured the Gun Runner colt (hip 243) from the Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment. The bay colt was bred by Three Chimneys Farm.

The high-profile yearling becomes the sixth offspring by Three Chimneys’ standout stallion Gun Runner to reach the seven-figure threshold at this auction.

Ward’s acquisition continues the strong market for Gun Runner’s progeny, whose commercial appeal has soared following his exceptional performance as a young sire.

The colt’s pedigree speaks for itself — his full brother Early Voting captured the 2022 Preakness Stakes, giving Gun Runner a classic winner from his first crop.

Three Chimneys Farm, which stands Gun Runner at its Kentucky operation, also bred this seven-figure yearling, highlighting their successful breeding program centered around their flagship stallion.

The Keeneland September Sale, the industry’s premier yearling auction, continues to demonstrate strength in the upper market despite broader economic uncertainties.

Taylor Made Sales Agency, perennially among the sale’s leading consignors, presented the colt as part of their extensive September offering.

The sale continues through September 21 with a total of 4,034 yearlings cataloged across the two-week auction.
