Heat Forces Racing Cancellations at Parx, Delaware, Finger Lakes

Parx, Delaware Park, and Finger Lakes have extended racing cancellations as extreme heat continues to impact thoroughbred racing schedules across multiple regions.

Parx officials announced Wednesday’s card will not proceed, expanding on their previous decision to cancel Monday and Tuesday racing due to dangerous heat conditions. The Pennsylvania track made the determination as temperatures continue to exceed safe operating thresholds.

Finger Lakes attempted to conduct Tuesday’s program but ultimately canceled all races, citing an excessive heat index that posed risks to horses and personnel.

Delaware Park has followed suit, canceling its entire Wednesday card as the heat wave intensifies across the region. Track management prioritized equine and human safety in their decision.

The widespread cancellations began earlier in the week when both Finger Lakes and Prairie Meadows abandoned Monday’s racing programs due to weather concerns.

The extreme temperatures affecting the Northeast and Midwest have created challenging conditions for racing operations, with track officials monitoring forecasts closely. No immediate announcements have been made regarding potential cancellations for later in the week.

These weather-related disruptions come during a busy summer racing season, forcing adjustments to racing calendars at multiple venues. Track officials will continue evaluating conditions before determining when safe racing can resume.
