Heat Forces Woodbine to Delay Sunday Post Time
Woodbine Entertainment announced Friday that Sunday’s racing card on June 22 will begin at 4 p.m., a delay from the original schedule due to extreme heat forecasted for the Toronto area.
The decision prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of horses and racing participants, according to track officials. The change received approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) after consultation with the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA).
Additional safety measures will be implemented throughout the weekend racing program. These include shorter post parades and increased water and hose access for all horses before and after races.
Saturday’s 11-race card remains unaffected by the weather concerns, with first post scheduled for 1:05 p.m. as originally planned.
Woodbine has consistently prioritized equine welfare in its operational decisions, particularly during extreme weather conditions that can impact thoroughbred performance and health.
The Toronto-area track’s proactive approach aligns with industry best practices for managing racing during challenging environmental conditions.
