OBS March saw its first seven-figure sale of Day 2 when a colt by freshman sire Independence Hall commanded $1 million from Muir Hut Stables on Wednesday.
The Kentucky-bred yearling, cataloged as Hip 404 from Eddie Woods’ consignment, impressed buyers after breezing an eighth in :9 4/5 during last week’s under tack show.
JPM Bloodstock secured the colt for trainer Mark Glatt.
“We just thought he was an athlete,” representatives stated after the purchase.
The March 8 foal represents a significant return on investment for Woods’ Quarter Pole Enterprises, which acquired him for $165,000 at Fasig-Tipton July last year. The colt had previously sold as a weanling for $32,000 at Keeneland November.
Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners bred the promising youngster, who is out of the stakes-placed mare Orecchiette (Harlan’s Holiday).
Independence Hall, standing his first season at stud, has quickly attracted attention from prominent buyers at the select two-year-old sale.
