Into Mischief Colt Nemo Scores Impressive Last-to-First Victory in Gulfstream Debut
E Five Racing Thoroughbreds‘ Nemo delivered a stunning come-from-behind victory Sunday at Gulfstream Park, rallying from last to first in his career debut on the turf course.
The 3-year-old son of Into Mischief, sent off at odds of 20-1, completed the mile distance in 1:34.13 with a powerful late kick that saw him split rivals in the final strides to narrowly defeat War Legend.
Jockey Micah Husbands settled the bay colt at the back of the field as the leaders set fractions of :24.56 and :47.86. Nemo remained next-to-last at the top of the stretch before unleashing his decisive rally along the rail.
The victory carries significant pedigree implications as Nemo is out of New Money Honey, a dual Grade I winner for the same connections. His dam captured the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and 2017 Belmont Oaks Invitational for Bob Edwards’s E Five Racing operation.
Nemo represents the first foal out of New Money Honey to reach the racetrack. The mare has a 2-year-old colt by War Front and produced a filly by Good Magic this year.
His female family includes Grade I Haskell Invitational Stakes winner Any Given Saturday under his third dam.
Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., Nemo was bred in Kentucky by Fifth Avenue Bloodstock. The longshot winner returned $43.80 to his backers.
FanDuel Racing highlighted the impressive victory on social media, noting: “NEMO found the winner’s circle in Race 2 at @GulfstreamPark!! Seriously though, check out this awesome move up the fence to score under Micah Husbands.”
