Jockey Dylan Davis Out Indefinitely Following Friday Spill

NYRA announced Saturday that jockey Dylan Davis will be sidelined indefinitely following a serious spill at Aqueduct on Friday.

Davis sustained a broken right collarbone, multiple fractured ribs and a partially collapsed lung, according to his agent Mike Migliore.

The incident occurred when Heavyweight Champs (Solomini) fell near the three-eighths pole, unseating jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr. Davis, who was aboard Tarpaulin (Leofric), made contact with Santana and was thrown from his mount.

Medical personnel immediately placed Davis on a backboard and transported him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. After being stabilized, he was transferred to the ICU at North Shore University Hospital late Friday evening for additional testing and to begin recovery.

“More than anything, I just want him to be healthy,” Migliore told NYRA. “He’ll get to go home to his family one day soon and be OK. It could have been a lot worse. Thank God, the Lord was looking over him and we have good people looking out for him and he’s going to get good care.”

Migliore also expressed gratitude to Bob Rosenthal, who provided guidance during Davis’s transfer to North Shore. The agent noted that Davis has undergone additional scans and X-rays to monitor his lung condition.

“He’s still uncomfortable, but all vitals are healthy,” Migliore added. “Dylan really appreciates all the well-wishes and now he just needs to rest and continue to heal.”

Santana, Jr., who visited onsite first aid under his own power following the incident, returned to racing on Saturday and resumed his scheduled mounts.

In a separate incident at Aqueduct on Thursday, jockey Sahin Civaci was unseated from Despo’s Dream (Mitole) and sustained hairline fractures to two vertebrae, according to his agent Mike Sellitto. Civaci is scheduled to follow up with an orthopedic specialist this week.
