Former Jockey Armando Rivera to Race Half-Marathon for PDJF
Former jockey Armando Rivera will compete in the Run the Bluegrass half-marathon on May 17 to raise awareness for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF). The paraplegic athlete and advocate will navigate the 13.1-mile course in his wheelchair.
The PDJF provides financial assistance to jockeys who have suffered catastrophic on-track injuries.
Rivera has competed in more than 50 races across the country, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to supporting fellow injured riders.
The half-marathon begins at 7 a.m. at Talon Winery in Southern Fayette County.
Rivera’s participation highlights the mission of the PDJF, which serves as a crucial safety net for jockeys whose careers and mobility have been impacted by racing accidents.
The event represents another milestone in Rivera’s advocacy work, as he continues to bring attention to the needs of permanently disabled jockeys through athletic competition.
