Journalism Made 4-1 Favorite in Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 6

Churchill Downs announced the final pool of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager will open Thursday and run through Saturday, with Curlin colt Journalism installed as the 4-1 morning-line favorite among 39 individual horses.

Pool 6 will close Saturday at approximately 4 p.m. ET, ahead of the Wood Memorial (GII), Blue Grass (GI), and Santa Anita Derby (GI) — a departure from the timing of the previous five pools.

Wagering opens Thursday at noon through TwinSpires.com and simulcast and ADW outlets nationwide, offering both win and exacta betting options.

Journalism, trained by Michael McCarthy, captured last month’s San Felipe Stakes (GII) and is scheduled to face a compact field in the Santa Anita Derby. The colt — owned by Bridlewood Farm, Don Alberto Stable, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Elayne Stables 5, Bob LaPenta and Coolmore — previously closed as the 5-1 favorite in Pool 5.

Eclipse Award winner Citizen Bull (Into Mischief), trained by Bob Baffert, is listed at 10-1 in the future wager and will face Journalism in the Santa Anita Derby.

The “All Other 3-Year-Olds” option not individually listed stands at 20-1.
