Kimura Secures First Riding Title at Los Angeles County Fair Meet
Los Alamitos announced Sunday that Kazushi Kimura claimed his first local riding title as the nine-day Los Angeles County Fair Meet concluded with improved metrics across several categories.
Field sizes increased for a second consecutive year, averaging 7.6 starters per race compared to slightly less than seven during the corresponding season last year.
The total Players’ Pick 5 pool reached $974,636, surpassing the previous high of $410,783 from 2016 when two-time Horse of the Year California Chrome served as the meet’s marquee attraction.
Kimura secured the riding championship with 10 victories, edging Diego Herrera who finished second with nine wins.
In the trainer standings, Steve Knapp and Peter Miller tied for the top position with six victories each. Knapp previously led the 2024 Winter Meet, while Miller has either led outright or shared the training title on eight occasions since daytime racing returned to Los Alamitos in 2014.
The second daytime meet of 2025 will begin Friday, Sept. 12, with six scheduled racing days through Sunday, Sept. 21. The meet will follow a Friday-Sunday format for both weeks (Sept. 12-14 and Sept. 19-21) with a 1:00 p.m. post time.
