King’s Plate Highlights Woodbine 2025 Stakes Schedule

Woodbine has announced its 2025 stakes schedule, with the 166th King’s Plate set for Saturday, Aug. 16, highlighting the Canadian racing season.

The prestigious event will anchor a robust schedule featuring 39 graded stakes races, including five Grade I contests throughout the season.

The 2025 Road to the Canadian Triple Crown begins with the King’s Plate at Woodbine before moving to Fort Erie Race Track for the Prince of Wales Stakes on Sept. 9. The series concludes with the Breeders’ Stakes returning to Woodbine on Sept. 28.

A significant development for the upcoming season is the return of the Grade I Canadian International on Oct. 4, which will be contested at its traditional 1 1/2-mile distance. This race, along with several others, will relocate to the bet365 Inner Turf course as the E.P. Taylor Turf Course undergoes scheduled renovations beginning after King’s Plate weekend.

Turf Champions Day on Sept. 13 will feature three Grade I events that carry Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” designations: the GI Rogers Woodbine Mile, the GI Johnnie Walker Natalma Stakes, and the GI bet365 Summer Stakes.

Unlike the 2024 season, the GI E.P. Taylor Stakes will not carry a “Win and You’re In” designation for 2025. The race has been moved to King’s Plate Day to ensure it can be contested over the E.P. Taylor course before renovations begin.

For fillies, the Canadian Triple Tiara series begins with the Woodbine Oaks on July 20, followed by the Bison City Stakes on Aug. 9 and concludes with the Wonder Where Stakes on Sept. 6.

Racing at Woodbine is scheduled to commence on Saturday, Apr. 26, with the complete 2025 stakes schedule now available on the track’s website.
