Stuart Angus: A Beloved Figure in Thoroughbred Racing
The thoroughbred racing community continues to mourn the loss of Stuart Angus, Senior Thoroughbred Advisor for Taylor Made, who passed away August 28 at age 60.
Angus left an indelible mark on countless individuals throughout the racing industry, known for his remarkable ability to connect with everyone he encountered.
“He was one of a kind. He had a way of believing in others, even when they didn’t believe in themselves,” recalls a close friend who met Angus during the November 2016 Keeneland Sale.
Their relationship began through a colleague’s introduction — “That’s Stu, you should go to dinner with him. He’s great and you’ll have a good time.” That initial dinner at Giuseppe’s marked the beginning of a nine-year friendship that would prove transformative.
What started as a chance meeting evolved into a profound connection. Despite the friend returning to Pennsylvania after that November sale, Angus maintained contact, offering unwavering support through nursing school and career transitions.
“I wouldn’t have landed in Kentucky, or be where I am today if it weren’t for Stu,” the friend notes. “Time with Stu was good for the soul. He was always up for an adventure and a good time.”
Angus demonstrated a remarkable ability to maintain relationships regardless of time or distance. “Time could pass, but we could always pick right back up as if it hadn’t,” his friend remembers.
His impact extended far beyond professional relationships. Angus became a steadfast presence in many lives, offering support during challenging times and celebrating achievements.
“Stu really had a way of taking you under his wing,” the friend explains. “He was more than just my friend, he was my person.”
Those who knew Angus describe him as someone universally admired within the thoroughbred community — a person others naturally gravitated toward and valued having in their corner.
Friends of Angus are encouraged to submit “Stu stories” to the Thoroughbred Daily News by emailing suefinley@thetdn.com to honor his memory and celebrate the countless lives he touched throughout his career.
