
Lone Star Park concluded its 29th Spring Thoroughbred Racing season on Sunday, July 13, posting increases across all key metrics. The 41-day meet saw daily average Live On-Track handle reach $247,453, up 2% from last year, while daily average export handle climbed 5% to $162,976. Attendance figures also showed a 7% improvement over 2023.
Ramon Vazquez captured the leading jockey title with 55 wins, his second championship at the track following his 2020 title when he recorded 58 victories. The veteran jockey’s season highlights included guiding Komorebino Omoide (Jpn) to victory in the GIII Steve Sexton Mile.
End Zone Athletics secured its fifth consecutive leading owner title at the Grand Prairie track.
With 22 wins during the meet, the operation claimed its ninth overall championship, surpassing Tom Durant’s previous record of eight titles.
The leading trainer battle came down to the final day with Steve Asmussen narrowly defeating Abel Ramirez-Rodriguez by finishing with 33 wins. Asmussen clinched his 18th training title when Noem Beach, ridden by Erik Asmussen, won Sunday’s seventh race.
Despite rainy conditions, Lone Star’s Million Day on Memorial Day generated the meet’s highest on-track handle with $788,805 wagered by 5,521 attendees. The Summer Turf Festival card on June 28 produced the highest export handle at $343,964.
The season’s attendance peak came during the July 4 Lone Stars & Stripes Fireworks Festival, which drew 11,913 fans to the track.
