Tampa Bay Downs saw a promising debut winner Saturday as Lordship, the full brother to graded stakes winner Hall of Fame, rallied from off the pace to capture his first career start.
The 3-year-old son of Gun Runner, sent off as the 7-5 favorite, overcame an awkward beginning to win the one mile and 40-yard maiden special weight by 1 1/4 lengths. The Triple Crown nominee completed the distance in 1:40.34 on a fast track.
Trained by Chad C. Brown for owner/breeder Earle I. Mack LLC, Lordship found himself near the back of the six-horse field after the break. The colt saved ground into the backstretch while rating in fifth past the half-mile in :46.70.
Lordship advanced with an outside bid around the far turn and continued his wide rally down the stretch, surging past late leader Three Percent (by Audible) in the final furlong.
The winner’s dam, Flag Day (by Giant’s Causeway), has already produced graded stakes winner Hall of Fame, who finished second in Saturday’s Grade II New Orleans Classic and has earned $322,960 to date.
Flag Day is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes-placed Street Ready (More Than Ready) and comes from the family of multiple Grade I winner Diversify (Bellamy Road).
Her production line continues with a 2-year-old Constitution colt named Massachusetts who commanded $450,000 at Keeneland September last year. She also has a yearling colt by Justify and is currently in foal to Good Magic.
Lordship, who RNA’d for $725,000 at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale, earned $19,200 for the victory.
