Gainesway Stable and Andrew Rosen’s Z Z’s delivered a dominant front-running performance in her racing debut Saturday at Ellis Park, drawing off to win by five lengths in a 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint.
The 2-year-old daughter of McKinzie, sent off at 5-2 odds, showed exceptional early speed under jockey Tyler Gaffalione, blazing through opening fractions of :21.04 and :43.92 before stopping the clock in 1:01.87.
Favored Second City Saint (Raging Bull) finished second, just nosing out Triskelion (Leinster) for the place position.
Trainer Brendan Walsh conditions the impressive juvenile filly, who earned $59,097 for the victory.
Z Z’s is out of the unraced Tapizar mare Zarmant, a daughter of multiple Grade I winner Tout Charmant. The Kentucky-bred was purchased for $185,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
Willow Oaks Stable, who bred the filly, has a yearling Corniche colt out of Zarmant that sold for $185,000 at this year’s Keeneland January sale. The mare also has an April 18-foaled Cyberknife filly and was bred back to Gun Pilot for next season.
