Keeneland saw a major purchase Wednesday as bloodstock agent Mike Ryan acquired a Curlin colt for $1.4 million during the third session of the September yearling sale.
The chestnut colt, cataloged as hip 652, was consigned by Gainesway and bred in Kentucky by Gainesway Thoroughbreds LTD.
This high-value acquisition features impressive bloodlines, with the March foal being out of stakes winner and Grade I-placed Cherry Lodge, a daughter of Bernardini.
The dam’s pedigree adds significant value to the yearling. Cherry Lodge is a full sister to graded stakes winner Gala Award and a half-sibling to Grade I winner Stormello and additional graded stakes winner My Best Brother, both by Stormy Atlantic.
Further enhancing the colt’s appeal, Cherry Lodge is also a half-sister to the dam of Canadian champion Curlin’s Voyage, who is by Hill ‘n’ Dale‘s leading sire Curlin.
The seven-figure transaction highlighted continued strong demand for premium bloodlines at the industry’s premier yearling auction, which continues through next week at the Lexington, Kentucky sales pavilion.
