Mystik Dan has found his new temporary home at Pimlico, folks. It’s that time of the year again when contenders start rolling in, each with dreams of victory.
So, it was Sunday, May 12, 2024, around 5:24 pm—yeah, you read that right, 2024. Time flies, doesn’t it? Anyway, back to our story. The news broke that Mystik Dan, the GI Kentucky Derby champ, had cozied up at Pimlico. Trainer Kenny McPeek confirmed his entry for the GI Preakness S. the day before. The journey to Pimlico Race Course was a breeze, with the team arriving just after 4 p.m., led by McPeek’s right-hand man, assistant trainer Ray Bryner.
“No muss, no fuss,” Bryner quipped. He’s got a point; Mystik Dan’s as chill as they come. A real gem to be around, not giving anyone a hard time.
The plan? Well, Bryner shared that a Monday gallop over Pimlico’s surface was on the agenda, right after the 8:30 a.m. renovation break. Sounds like a plan, doesn’t it?
Oh, and if you’re into social media snippets, McPeek made sure Mystik Dan’s arrival didn’t go unnoticed. A tweet with a pic to mark the occasion was up before you could say “Preakness.”
But wait, there’s more. Tuscan Gold, trained by Chad Brown, is also Baltimore-bound. Brown’s looking for his third Preakness win, having tasted victory in 2017 and again in 2022. Talk about setting the bar high!
And then there’s the dynamic duo from California—Muth and Imagination. Trained by Bob Baffert, they’re set to leave their Santa Anita base early Tuesday. By afternoon, they’ll be at Pimlico, ready to stir things up. Baffert’s pretty stoked about their chances, praising their recent breezes and teamwork.
In the world of horse racing, it’s all about the anticipation, the strategy, and, of course, the horses. As these contenders begin to arrive, the excitement builds. Who will emerge victorious? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure—it’s going to be one heck of a race.
