New Topper At OBS April As Tiz The Law Colt Brings $1.5M

Spendthrift, St. Elias and West Point Partner on $1.5M Tiz The Law Colt at OBS April

A colt from the second crop of Tiz the Law set a new sale-topping price during Friday’s final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales April sale, commanding $1.5 million from the partnership of Spendthrift Farm, St. Elias and West Point Thoroughbreds.

The Louisiana-bred yearling (hip 1094) was consigned by S G V Thoroughbreds, operated by Steven Venosa. The colt worked an eighth of a mile in :10 flat during the under-tack show.

The seven-figure purchase represents a significant vote of confidence in Tiz the Law’s potential as a sire. His first crop has yet to race.

The sale-topper boasts an impressive female family. He is out of a half-sister to Canadian champion female sprinter River Maid (Where’s the Ring). His dam has already produced a stakes performer in Cocktail Moments (Uncle Mo), who finished second in the Grade I Central Bank Ashland Stakes.

This transaction marks the highest price paid at the 2025 OBS April sale, surpassing the previous top lot. The partnership of three major industry players signals strong commercial interest in Tiz the Law’s offspring as they prepare to hit the racetrack.

The four-day OBS April sale concluded Friday with several notable purchases, though none approached the $1.5 million paid for the Tiz the Law colt.
