NFL has renewed interest in the former Arlington Park racetrack site for a potential Chicago Bears stadium, according to a report Tuesday from Sports Business Journal.
The team has shifted focus back to Arlington Heights after previously exploring a Chicago lakefront location. While the Bears won’t seek state funding for the stadium itself, they would “likely seek state funding for infrastructure” to support the project.
The Bears currently play at Soldier Field but have long sought a new venue with modern amenities.
Arlington Heights Mayor Jim Tinaglia acknowledged ongoing negotiations with the team, telling SBJ that “much work remains to ensure that the village’s and team’s goals can be met.” He added that discussions “have ramped up in recent months” and are “headed in the right direction.”
The property, formerly home to the historic Arlington Park racetrack, has been considered a prime development opportunity since racing operations ceased. Its substantial acreage provides the team with options beyond just a stadium footprint.
This renewed interest marks another chapter in the Bears’ years-long search for a stadium solution that would provide the franchise with greater revenue opportunities and enhanced fan amenities.
No timeline has been established for a potential agreement between the team and Arlington Heights officials.
