Heads up, readers! The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame (NMRHOF) has kicked off a new program. It’s called “Readers’ Up!” and it’s designed to bring the museum experience right into classrooms.

The program was launched on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. The idea is to expand learning opportunities for students across the U.S. And guess what? It’s absolutely free!

The museum is offering free copies of equine-related literature to schools. These books will be used in English Language Arts curriculums. The program’s sponsor is none other than Stewart’s Shops.

Here’s the cool part. Museum representatives will visit the participating schools. They can do this in person or virtually. They’ll bring along items and artifacts related to the books the students are reading.

The goal? To develop a passion for reading among young students. The program provides a historical backdrop to connect students to Thoroughbred racing. It’s a unique and exciting way to learn. And the best part? No costs for the schools.

Matt Reichel, the National Museum of Racing’s Educator, had something to say about it. He said, “The Museum is committed to inclusive and accessible education. We want to remove as many barriers to entry as we can.”

He recognizes that some schools may not have the resources to visit the museum. So, they’ve decided to bring the museum to them. “Readers Up! is a remarkable program that encourages reading and connects students with our sport in new and unique ways,” he added.

The museum is thrilled to share this initiative with their local community and schools throughout the country. And they’re super thankful to Stewart’s Shops for sponsoring the program. So, let’s get reading, folks!
