Brad Cox trainee Embrace Time delivered an impressive debut victory Friday in a $100,000 maiden special weight on the Saratoga turf course, hinting at significant potential for the well-bred juvenile filly.
The 2-year-old daughter of Not This Time displayed professional demeanor in the gate before capturing the one-mile contest by a length under jockey Flavien Prat, who secured his third win of the card.
Racing midpack early while 7-2 Gorrono Ranch set fractions of :23.95 and :48.24, Embrace Time remained under tight restraint until Prat gave her the cue on the turn. The filly found her best stride in the stretch despite showing greenness — cocking her head toward the grandstand and briefly switching to her wrong lead.
Connect the Stars finished second in the race, which was completed in a final time of 1:35.94 over firm turf.
Bred and owned by James F. Schurman, Embrace Time comes from an accomplished family that includes Grade 1 winners Stellar Jayne and Starrer. Her dam, stakes winner Dontmesswithjoanne ($180,638), has a yearling Quality Road colt and was bred to Constitution this season.
The winner’s dam has had an interesting commercial journey, selling for $210,000 at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton May Digital sale before returning to the digital auction platform last December, where she brought just $4,500 from Tanya Johnson.
Embrace Time herself was purchased for $175,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September yearling sale.
The victory earned Embrace Time $55,000, giving her a perfect 1-for-1 record to start her career.
