On Time Girl Earns ‘TDN Rising Star’ Status With Impressive Churchill Victory
On Time Girl became the 12th ‘TDN Rising Star’ for her sire Not This Time at Churchill Downs Thursday evening. The 2-year-old filly represents the eighth Rising Star this year for the leading young Taylor Made stallion.
The Brad Cox-trained Albaugh Family homebred, who went off as the 2-1 second choice, built upon her 2 1/2-length debut victory at Ellis Park on Aug. 3 with an even more commanding performance.
Racing between rivals in the early stages, On Time Girl made a flashy move into second position heading into the far turn. She challenged the leader at the top of the stretch before unleashing powerful strides to win by four lengths. Longshot Boom Boom Bell (Combatant) finished second.
Heavily favored ‘Rising Star’ Tennessee Belle (Yaupon), who had scored a runaway maiden victory at Saratoga on Aug. 16, failed to fire and finished eighth.
On Time Girl is out of Girl Daddy (Uncle Mo), winner of the GIII Pocahontas S. and third-place finisher in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Girl Daddy was a $500,000 KEESEP yearling purchase by Dennis Albaugh’s operation.
After producing a full-sister to On Time Girl this year, Girl Daddy was bred back to Flightline. The winning filly is bred on the same Not This Time x Indian Charlie cross as GISW Sacred Wish.
The Albaugh Family also owned and bred Not This Time, who concluded his career with a narrow second in the 2016 GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
The allowance victory came in the fourth race at Churchill Downs, with On Time Girl completing six furlongs in 1:10.43 under jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. The filly improved her career record to 2-for-2 with earnings of $131,990.
On Time Girl was a $375,000 RNA at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
