PA Horse Breeders Association Hosts Inaugural Yearling Show

Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association will host the Commonwealth’s first-ever Pennsylvania Yearling Show on Saturday, June 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Brandywine Polo Club in New Garden, PA.

The event is free and open to the public, featuring Pennsylvania-Bred horses competing for more than $5,000 in awards and prizes.

Yearlings will be categorized into four classes based on gender (colts, geldings or fillies) and whether they were sired by a Pennsylvania stallion.

“We created the Pennsylvania Yearling Show as a way to showcase our Pennsylvania-bred Thoroughbreds and generate interest in horse breeding here in the Commonwealth,” said Brian Sanfratello, Executive Secretary of the PHBA.

Russell Jones, a veteran Pennsylvania breeder and member of the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission, will judge the competition.

The PHBA aims to establish this inaugural event as a foundation for future growth. Sanfratello noted that their goal is to “expand the size and scope each year to create a major annual showcase of Pennsylvania yearlings.”

The organization encourages families to attend the event at the Brandywine Polo Club (232 Polo Road, Toughkenamon, PA 19374) for an opportunity to see Pennsylvania-bred horses up close in a family-friendly environment.

This marks the first dedicated yearling show for Pennsylvania-bred Thoroughbreds, potentially creating a new tradition in the Commonwealth’s racing industry.
