Paige Turner Secures Victory at Churchill Downs in Second Start

Churchill Downs favorite Paige Turner delivered a commanding performance Thursday, drawing in from the also-eligible list to capture her maiden special weight by 5 1/4 lengths under jockey Corey Lanerie.

The 2-year-old Army Mule filly, sent off at 8-5, stalked the early pace before powering clear in the stretch of the seven-furlong contest. She completed the distance in 1:24.23 over a fast track.

Paige Turner settled behind dueling leaders as Raspberry (Medaglia d’Oro) set fractions of :22.63 and :46.32 for the half-mile. Making her move along the grandstand side, she seized command passing the furlong marker and cruised home under a hand ride in the final sixteenth. Raspberry held second.

The victory comes after a promising runner-up debut on August 31 at Saratoga, where she finished 1 3/4 lengths behind even-money favorite Lovely Christina (Vekoma).

Trained by Cherie DeVaux, Paige Turner is a half-sister to “TDN Rising Star” Speed Boat Beach (Bayern), a Grade 1 winner with earnings of $504,850. Her dam Sophia Mia (Pioneerof the Nile) is also the dam of placed 3-year-old La Fantastica (Volatile).

Sophia Mia, a daughter of stakes winner and multiple graded stakes-placed Amie’s Dini (Bandini), has a yearling filly by Not This Time and a 2025 Elite Power colt. She was bred to Constitution for 2026.

Paige Turner, a $350,000 purchase at the 2025 OBS March Sale, races for the partnership of David Ingordo, West Point Thoroughbreds and Danbro Farms, LLC. She was bred in Kentucky by TMSI, Bell Tower Thoroughbreds, Omar Aldabbagh, Frank Taylor, et al.

The win improved her career record to 2-1-1-0 with earnings of $89,300.
