Peter Blum Remembers the Late Christophe Clement
Respected thoroughbred trainer Christophe Clement, who built a remarkable career after launching his independent operation in 1991, is being remembered for his exceptional contributions to racing following his recent passing.
Owner Peter Blum reflected on their decades-long professional relationship and friendship in a heartfelt statement.
“Seth Hancock recommended Christophe Clement when he went out on his own in 1991 and I sent horses to him,” Blum noted. “Christophe worked extremely hard to become one of the most successful trainers in New York.”
Clement established himself as a premier conditioning talent on the New York circuit, developing a reputation for his meticulous approach and success with turf specialists.
Blum’s statement acknowledged the difficulty of Clement’s final battle. “We were friends for many years. I appreciated a text from him on May 4, but could only think about how hard this battle had to be.”
The trainer leaves behind a significant legacy in thoroughbred racing, having conditioned multiple Grade 1 winners throughout his distinguished career.
“Christophe will be remembered by what he achieved in his career,” Blum stated. “He leaves a large, loving family behind to relish his accomplishments and honor his memory by building on them.”
Clement’s family continues his racing legacy, with son Miguel following in his father’s footsteps as a trainer.
