Respected Horseman James “Jimmy” Alexander Passes Away

Jimmy Alexander, a well-respected and accomplished horseman, passed away after a short illness, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to the Thoroughbred industry, a love for golf and sports, and a loving family, and a celebration of his life will be held in Ocala and Kentucky.

‣ James “Jimmy” Alexander was a proud third generation horseman, raised on the prestigious Bwamazon Farm in Winchester, Kentucky.
‣ After serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, Alexander returned to the Thoroughbred industry and had a successful career as a farm manager.
‣ He is survived by his wife, two sons, grandchildren, step-grandson, step great-grandson, and stepchildren.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Jimmy” Alexander, a beloved and esteemed figure in the equestrian world. Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, Alexander was a third-generation horseman, raised on the renowned Bwamazon Farm in Winchester, Kentucky. His love for horses and the industry was ingrained in him from a young age, as he worked alongside his father and honed his skills in Ocala, Florida in his teens.

After proudly serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, Alexander found his way back to the Thoroughbred industry, managing operations at prominent establishments such as Franks Farm, Bwamazon Farm, and Live Oak Plantation. His dedication and passion for the industry led him to a role as the farm manager at Double Diamond Farm, where he remained actively involved for over 30 years until his recent illness.

Beyond his career in the equestrian world, Alexander was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing golf and cheering on teams like the Kentucky Wildcats and Florida Gators. His positive spirit and kind nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife Deni Alexander, his sons Chris and Kevin, and a host of other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation in honor of his memory. A celebration of life will be held on December 2 at the Ocala National Golf Club, with a similar event to follow in Kentucky at a later date. The memories and stories of Jimmy Alexander will live on through all who cherished him, and his legacy in the equestrian community will endure for years to come.
