Saratoga Jockeys vs Horsemen Charity Basketball Game Aug 6

NYRA announced the 16th annual jockeys-versus-horsemen charity basketball game will take place August 6 at the Saratoga Springs Recreation Center. The 7 p.m. event will benefit the New York Race Track Chaplaincy programs and the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund.

Hall of Fame jockey Angel Cordero, Jr. returns to coach the jockey team, with Taaj Ridley, head of player development and assistant coach for the Maine Celtics of the NBA G League, joining him on the sidelines.

The horsemen’s team welcomes new leadership this year. Trainer Kenny McPeek and retired New York-based trainer Rick Schosberg will take over coaching duties, succeeding Todd Pletcher and Kiaran McLaughlin who led the team for the past 15 years.

Former Syracuse University star Ryan Blackwell, currently the assistant men’s basketball coach for Siena College, will participate as this year’s special guest player.

Mitch Levites from the NYRA TV department will handle announcing duties and provide commentary throughout the game.

The Saratoga Springs Recreation Center is located at 15 Vanderbilt Avenue. Admission to the charity event is free.

Those interested in sponsorship opportunities can visit the New York Chaplaincy website at www.rtcany.org for additional information.
