Star of Wonder Returns Triumphant in Aqueduct Allowance
WinStar Farm‘s Star of Wonder made a successful return to the races Friday, capturing a one-mile allowance at Aqueduct in his first start as a 4-year-old.
The Uncle Mo colt, a half-brother to multiple Grade 1 winner Shedaresthedevil, prevailed as the even-money favorite despite early trouble in the $86,000 event.
Star of Wonder overcame a slow start to advance into fourth position through an opening quarter in :23.11. The Brad Cox trainee found himself in traffic approaching the quarter pole before securing racing room along the rail in the stretch, ultimately defeating longshot Castle Chaos (Palace Malice) by a half-length.
The final time for the mile was 1:35.23 on a fast track.
The victory improved the TDN Rising Star designee’s career record to four wins from five starts with earnings of $267,680. Star of Wonder had been on the sidelines since winning an optional claiming event around two turns at Churchill Downs last November.
Star of Wonder comes from an accomplished family. His half-sister Shedaresthedevil (Daredevil) earned $2,777,458 while capturing multiple Grade 1 races during her stellar career. Another half-sibling, Mojovation (Quality Road), is a graded stakes-placed performer with earnings of $375,988.
The dam, Starship Warpspeed (Congrats), has also produced Lady Scuderia (Uncle Mo), a $2.5-million Keeneland September yearling purchase scheduled to debut for Resolute Racing and trainer Bill Mott at Keeneland Sunday. Her 2-year-old colt Leading Change (Gun Runner) brought $800,000 at the same sale when purchased by Case Clay Thoroughbred Management.
Star of Wonder was both owned and bred by WinStar Farm.
