Sunday Silence Named 2025 Legend Of Bourbon County Award Recipient
The Legends of Bourbon County Thoroughbred Fund announced Friday that 1989 Horse of the Year Sunday Silence will be honored as the 2025 Legend of Bourbon County.
The prestigious recognition will be celebrated during the annual festival scheduled for October 11-12 in Paris, Kentucky. Festival activities will include live entertainment, educational events, and farm tours throughout the region.
“We are thrilled to honor Sunday Silence the 2025 Legend of Bourbon County, as well as partner with Stone Farm,” said Lauren Biddle, chair of the Legends of Bourbon County Thoroughbred Fund. “His legacy, both as a racehorse and as a sire, is a testament to the rich tradition of excellence in Bourbon County, and we look forward to celebrating him alongside the passionate community of racing fans and breeders who continue to make this region a global epicenter for Thoroughbred breeding.”
The son of Halo left an indelible mark on the racing world during his competitive career and later established himself as an influential sire in the international breeding industry.
Arthur Hancock of Stone Farm expressed his appreciation for the recognition. “We are blessed to be in Bourbon County, the heart of the Bluegrass, on the very land that produces world class racehorses. Sunday Silence was one of the best things that ever happened to me in my life. He was a gift from God.”
Sunday Silence‘s racing accomplishments include victories in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, cementing his place among the sport’s elite performers before his successful stud career.
