Thoroughbred Charities of America has awarded more than $1.1 million in grants to 98 organizations in 2025, following a record number of applications, the nonprofit announced Thursday.
The grants support 63 aftercare organizations, 24 backstretch and farm worker programs, seven equine-assisted therapy organizations, three Thoroughbred incentive programs, and one research organization.
TCA’s grant committee established specific funding priorities this year, emphasizing support for organizations serving backstretch and farm employee communities as well as non-traditional aftercare organizations. The committee defined non-traditional aftercare as organizations providing on-track placement services for retiring Thoroughbreds or those incentivizing equine enthusiasts to choose Thoroughbreds as their next mount.
“Our annual grants reflect both the generosity of our donors and the strength of the organizations we are privileged to support,” said Erin Halliwell, executive director of TCA. “We take our responsibility as stewards of donor contributions very seriously because it is these donations that allow us to make a real impact via our grants. Every dollar entrusted to TCA helps us invest in organizations that are making an impact on Thoroughbreds and their caretakers.”
The distribution marks one of the organization’s largest annual grant allocations in its history, demonstrating the racing industry’s continued commitment to aftercare and support services.
Organizations receiving funding underwent a thorough application and review process to ensure alignment with TCA’s mission of providing a better life for Thoroughbreds and the people who care for them.
