Live Oak‘s Souper Williwaw Tops Weekly Racing Prospects

Souper Williwaw delivered an impressive front-running victory at Monmouth Park, showcasing potential for Charlotte Weber’s Live Oak Plantation. The Hard Spun filly matched her dam’s career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 83 in just her fourth start.

Jockey Paco Lopez guided the 3-year-old through the 1 1/16 miles turf course, setting the pace before drawing away in the stretch. Trainer Michael Trombetta continues developing the promising filly, whose name references a violent windstorm that occurs suddenly near oceans and mountain ranges.

Juddmonte’s Spiced Up earned top honors this week with an 86 Beyer Speed Figure at Aqueduct. The Quality Road colt, trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Junior Alvarado, completed 6 furlongs on turf in a swift 1:07.43.

The victory marks Mott’s second time atop the rankings in three weeks. Spiced Up is the first foal from Cardamon, a half-sister to four-time Grade I winner Emollient and Florida Derby runner-up Hofburg.

Tracy Farmer’s homebred Special Session tied for second with an 84 Beyer at Woodbine. The Constitution colt, trained by Mark Casse, showed significant improvement in his ninth career start.

The half-brother to Farmer’s GI Belmont Stakes winner Sir Winston has competed exclusively on synthetic and turf surfaces throughout his career.

Mayor of Midnight earned an 84 Beyer Figure at Aqueduct for trainer Chad Brown. The Irish-bred gelding by Lope de Vega overcame a wide trip and slow pace to edge out two rivals in the 1 3/8 miles turf contest.

Owned by Peter Brant and Tony Shafrazian, Mayor of Midnight represents Brant’s European bloodstock program. Shafrazian, a prominent New York art dealer, makes his first documented foray into thoroughbred ownership.

Royal’s Pride (GB) finished second to Mayor of Midnight, also earning an 84 Beyer Figure. The Dubawi colt carries significant bloodlines as the grandson of two-time Eclipse champion Royal Delta, who died in 2017 from foaling complications.

Besilu Stables owner Benjamin Leon Jr., recently named U.S. Ambassador to Spain, maintains his commitment to Royal Delta’s legacy. Leon, who purchased Royal Delta for $8.5 million during her racing career, has stated that her daughter Delta’s Royalty will “never be sold.”

A Bourbon For Toby rounded out the top performances with an 83 Beyer Figure despite finishing third at Aqueduct. The Bernardini colt has posted consecutive strong figures since trainer Tom Morley added blinkers two starts back.
