Third Time’s the Charm for Uncle Mo’s Kapoor as She Dons Cap & Gown at Churchill

Godolphin Homebred Kapoor Breaks Maiden in Impressive Fashion at Churchill

Churchill Downs saw Kapoor, a well-bred daughter of Uncle Mo, dominate Saturday’s seventh-furlong maiden special weight with a wire-to-wire victory under jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.

The William I. Mott-trained filly, sent off as the 6-5 favorite, secured her first win after consecutive third-place finishes at Gulfstream Park and Keeneland earlier this year.

Despite a bumpy start, Kapoor quickly recovered to establish an uncontested lead through fractions of :22.46 and :45.30. The three-year-old Godolphin homebred maintained her advantage throughout the turn and pulled away in the stretch to win by 4 1/4 lengths over Speighter Woman.

“She showed her class today,” said Mott after the race. “We’ve always thought highly of her potential.”

The victory came in Kapoor’s third career start, improving her lifetime record to 3-1-0-2 with earnings of $86,313.

Kapoor hails from an impressive pedigree. She’s out of Kareena, a stakes-winning Medaglia d’Oro mare who has produced stakes-placed Padma (Tapit). Kareena is a daughter of multiple graded stakes winner India (Hennessy) and a half-sister to Japanese multiple Group 1 winner Mozu Ascot (Frankel).

The extended family includes stakes winner Pilfer (Deputy Minister), who produced multiple Grade 1 winner To Honor and Serve (Bernardini) and Grade 1 winner Angela Rennee. Pilfer is also the granddam of GI Central Bank Ashland Stakes winner La Cara (Street Sense).

Kareena has a yearling filly by Tapit and a 2025 filly by Constitution.
