
Sam Houston Race Park will host the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance during Texas Champions Day on Saturday, Mar. 22, highlighting the organization’s commitment to retired racehorse welfare throughout the event.
The partnership aims to raise awareness for accredited aftercare programs during the entire race day and meet, showcasing opportunities for Thoroughbreds after their racing careers conclude.
“We are very excited to host Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and their VIP guests for Texas Champions Day,” said Bryan Pettigrew, Vice President & General Manager of Texas Racing Operations at Sam Houston Park. “As supporters of accredited aftercare, we are honored to highlight the incredible work that Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance does to ensure racehorses have a safe and fulfilling life beyond the track.”
The collaboration represents an ongoing commitment from the Texas racing venue to support responsible retirement options for Thoroughbreds.
Emily Dresen, Director of Funding & Events for the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, expressed enthusiasm about the organization’s return to the signature racing event.
“Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance is thrilled to participate once again in Texas Champions Day,” Dresen said. “Having the opportunity to engage with racing fans and our VIP guests allows us to further our mission and continue making a meaningful impact on the lives of retired racehorses.”
The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance serves as the industry’s official accrediting body for aftercare organizations that provide placement and care for retired racehorses. The organization has accredited over 80 aftercare organizations operating at more than 180 facilities across North America.
Texas Champions Day features multiple stakes races showcasing the state’s top Thoroughbred talent while now also highlighting the importance of responsible retirement planning for these equine athletes.
