Thunderstorms Force Gulfstream to Cancel Remainder of Sunday Card

Gulfstream Park Cancels Remainder of Sunday Card Due to Severe Weather

A severe thunderstorm system forced Gulfstream Park to cancel the final five races of its Sunday program, track officials announced. The decision came after officials assessed safety concerns for horses, horsemen and spectators.

The cancellation followed a lengthy weather delay before the sixth race, with meteorological forecasts predicting steady rainfall into the early evening hours.

“Out of an abundance of caution,” read the statement from 1/ST Racing, the track’s parent company, officials determined conditions were unsuitable to continue racing operations.

Track officials confirmed that all Exacta, Trifecta and Superfecta wagers were refunded to bettors.

The Sunshine meet at Gulfstream is scheduled to resume Friday with a nine-race program, weather permitting.

This marks the third weather-related cancellation at a major Florida track this month, as the state continues to experience an active late-summer storm season.
